Preventing Campus

Violence . . .



As we have begun to identify, harassment and discrimination is a serious situation which requires a proactive approach to preventing incidents on campus. ABC Community College will not tolerate misconduct directed towards students, staff or faculty. Any reports directed at or involving staff will be directed to the Human


Resources office to be handled appropriately and within WAC guidelines.

Any reports involving students should be directed to Campus Security and the Dean of Student Services. At this level, security and the Dean of Student Conduct will be involved in investing the situation and determining if further legal actions should be involved or if this can be solved within the college.



Policy Against Discrimination


ABCCC does not tolerate discrimination against sex, gender identity or orientation, race, color, culture, ethnicity, religion, age, marital status, disability, or economic status. Anyone found discriminating against another member on campus will be subject to investigation and ultimate repercussion based on the results of the findings. Based on the laws of against discrimination, offenders may be reported to the authorities and held responsible.


The Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VII, "prohibits race discrimination in hiring, promotion, discharge, pay, fringe benefits, job training, classification, referral, and other aspects of employment, on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. This law is enforced by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)."


 

Sexual Harassment

 

The Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Title IX, Educational Amendments of 1972 is also the Human Rights Act provision on sexual harassment in Higher Education. Students and staff must be able to interact, study, and work on campus without the fear of sexual harassment. This behavior causes individuals to feel uncomfortable and decreases performance. Physical Harassment (or the threat of) will also not be condoned on campus. This form of harassment includes, but is not limited to, the threat or physical abuse causing physical harm to another. Harassment of this nature may also include taunting; pushing, verbally threatening, and stalking. This form of behavior may come in the face to face act, written in emails, text, or indirect insinuation of the act. All members of the campus should be able to conduct their own business or learning on campus with out the intimidating factors of physical or the threat of physical abuse. Any actions of this nature may be reported in person or through the Red Flag

reporting process if the individual feels that no eminent danger is expected. Participating in any acts of violence or rioting on campus will also be dealt with swiftly.These policies are non-negotiable and all campus members; employees and students must uphold these regulations. If you feel you have been wrongly discriminated against or harassed in any way and would like advisement, you are welcome to contact, human resources for employees, or the Dean of Student Conduct for advisement. For situations that you may feel are more sensitive, you may also contact the Counseling department for advisement.


The next step is to complete the following quiz. At the end, you will be directed to input your student ID number or employee ID number. Employees, your quiz will reported to the HR department as completing the annual required Harassment and Discrimination Training. Students, once the training is complete, your results will be documented in your student records which will also grant you access to enrollment.
